Review of The Flower of My Secret (1995) by Fredrick R — 12 May 2008
So far, this is probably the most "normal" film of Almodovar I've seen. No huge tragedy or death, no transvestites, no hookers, no pregnant nuns..
Entertaining, but lacks the twisted bite of his other movies. the plot is somewhat simple. A romance novelist (Leo) who uses a pen name with marital troubles gets fed up with writing such drivel. She ends up working at El Pais and has to review her own novel.
Leo's squabbling mom and sister are pretty hilarious.
However I think its funny how a small part of the movie about the psychologist who gives seminars to doctors who may have to perform organ donations later develops into its own idea and full movie of All About My Mother.
Also he hints about Volver about the best way of disposing a body and chopping it up.
