Review of The Five-Year Engagement (2012) by Ian B — 22 Jan 2013
Definitely a solid film. It could have been far better had it been more concise. It lost the "com" portion of rom-com during the incredibly long act where they are split. The acting is very good, and there are some great laughs.
But a couple pointless characters (Giddeon e.g.) and a bit overdone "losing it" phase Tom goes through (the meat and beard) drag it down. And again, just the length of their troubles (truly, 3 years).
Above average overall, but loosely executed in the end. 3 stars / B-.
