Review of The Five-Year Engagement (2012) by Daniel D — 08 Apr 2013

There's quiet a bit wrong with this movie, which I didn't want to see in the first place based on the trailer which was pretty much a shortened version of this film. The lowest down point was the ferociously awful editing, done by William Kerr.

He also edited Bridesmaids and Superbad, but just did a sloppy job here. The film would jump nine months at a time without a single cut. I could never tell how far in advanced the film went, until Segal started growing facial hair.

Segal and Blunt had weak chemistry working with each other, and felt awkward together. It was a predictable rom com, with a break up and get back together. It was just all laid out for you. It did have a few sexually oriented laughs, but not enough for the two hours it went on for.
