Review of The Five-Year Engagement (2012) by Daniel J — 04 Jul 2013
After a cinematic hiatus of over a week, the first of two films today was The Five Year Engagement.
As romantic comedies go, it's better than the usual slushy-gushy formulaic fare, with lots of quirky one liners and eccentric characters/plot twists.
However, about an hour in, it all gets a bit samey; subtlety is replaced by cartoonish set pieces.
The women in the audience - of which there were many - seemed to love it. The guys, engulfed in estrogen, not so much. Overall verdict: pleasing.
