Review of The Five Senses (1999) by Jordan S — 15 Jun 2007
None of my hipster Canadian friends wanted to see this once I told them it was Canadian. That's because Canadian cinema is thought to be too earnest, this film most definitely included. But every single frame of it works.
It may even function as a critique of how easy it is to manufacture that earnestness, esp. in its greatest scene ("It smells like...love" just absolutely crushed me). And P. freakin' S., most of the stories herein have no solutions whatsoever so I have no clue what movie Kathleen Murphy (author of the review here) saw.
Not this one.
