Review of The Five Pennies (1959) by Danny G — 18 Jul 2007
Ah. No picture available. This was the first movie I ever saw. I was five.
It began my lifelong admiration for Danny Kaye even though this wasn't a knockabout role.
Kaye is superb as cornet player Red Nichols in this glamourised version of his biography - but the real star turn here is the score.
Brilliant, brilliant music played by brilliant brilliant musicians. Revel in Armstrong and Kaye as they wander their way through some great numbers.
