Review of The Fits (2016) by Jake L — 20 Feb 2017
This isn't a movie, it's an art house experiment. We experimented with different camera angles and filters when I was a film student, we never had enough money behind us, or the time, to rival this, but there are a lot of similarities.
The score is definitely far better than anything most students ever come up with, and this fact alone elevates the movie superficially. But it's poorly thought through, and isn't really about anything. God bless those trying to find deep meaning in it, because this is a classic example of style over content. In saying that, the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if this is nominated for best picture next year. It's just the sort of claptrap luuvies will fawn over, while the rest of us will be left bewildered.
An interesting mid term film school project with knobs on.
