An original take on a fable could have been ruined by Robin Williams wackily over-the-top performance, but realistic and nuanced acting from Jeff Bridges, Amanda Plummer and Mercedes Ruehl keep this just a few feet off the ground. Michael Jeter comes close to stealing the entire show.
It's not one of Gilliam's best, but worth watching if you're a fan of his work.
