Review of The Fisher King (1991) by Rodney E — 09 Jan 2010
You know this could have been a great movie. But hiring Robin Williams to be in a Terry Gilliam movie was like taking a normal A-B-C pattern and changing it to A-IV-w pattern. Two of the most self indulgent people in hollywood combine to ruin a perfectly good concept and turn it into a weird fair tale about a homeless schizhophrenic.
There are still nuggets of greatness to be found throughout. But Robin Williams annoyed me throughout and Jeff Bridges character leaves no reason for me to care if he gets redeemed or not. And Mercedes Ruehl is just pointless and lacking any kind of real emotions.
This would have been better served to have someone like Steven Speilberg or maybe a young Tim Burton direct it. As it is its still very watchable and interesting. The movie comes to an abrupt end though after nearly two and a half hours of slow moving crazyness.
What could have been.................
