Review of The Fisher King (1991) by Goran M — 03 Feb 2010
Such an underrated movie, staring two of the most underrated actor and directed by a very underrated director. Gilliam's magnificent imagination present us with a tale remorse, redemption and rebirth .
This flick is based on the myth of the same named medieval legend that tells the tale of a dying king who through betrayal and tragedy has lost the Holy Grail. The 80's New York is a great setting for this fantasy, symbolic quest, and the surreal theatricalness of some of the scenes only adds to the overall artistic flow of the film.
The visuals are superb, the movie works on many levels, so apart from this very abstract layer, we get a funny and intelligent comedy about modern misfits - with a great love story, or two.Highly recommendable!
