Review of The Fisher King (1991) by Simon W — 29 Jan 2011
Back before Robin Williams dissapeared up his own ass. Here he's still big and crazy, but it's within a context and it's restrained and retained within a character. Makes all the difference.
Jeff Bridges too is on fine form, also giving a big and visually flared performance - even if it is of a broken and subdued man - though necessary in order to register on the screen next to Williams. They make a good double act.
For a Terry Gilliam film this is actually pretty straight - even if it is, as usual, about the nature of sanity and perception. Very funny and very sweet while still being pretty heavy.
