Review of The Fisher King (1991) by Jeffrey M — 22 Jun 2012
The Fisher King is one of Terry Gilliam's more accessible films, working as an effective drama and comedy, with Gilliam's characteristic fantasy/whimsical elements thrown in. Normally films with this sort of mixture have issues with tone, but Fisher King mostly strikes a good balance between all the elements, never cheapening the moving dramatic story at its heart. The film also succeeds in large part because of the fantastic performances of both Robin Wiliams and Jeff Brides, who completely inhibit their characters and elevate every scene. In the end, it amounts to a truly unique, refreshingly honest, and funny dramady.
4/5 Stars.
