Review of The Fisher King (1991) by Brett H — 06 Feb 2014

Truly moving and imaginative drama that tells a heartbreaking story full of the fantastical elements you'd expect from a Terry Gilliam film. Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams are superb in this and you love both their characters almost instantaneously! The medieval imagery backing the "Fisher King" story are incorporated well into the story and you get lost in the tale.

The story really is tragic and the first ten minutes are sad as hell, showing that you never know the consequences of your actions. There is a truly hilarious dinner scene in the middle that I enjoyed quite a bit, but there is also a flashback scene that I felt went too far.

It's not a perfect film, but the character study is outstanding and tugs at the heart strings.
