Review of The Fisher King (1991) by Addie J — 16 Aug 2014
Amazing. This movie is poignant and bursting with heart. It makes you feel so many different things, especially in light of Robin Williams' recent tragic death. It is quirky, yet completely relatable and has that awesome 90s flair.
Robin Williams was a passionately bold actor, who quite clearly immersed himself in his roles and rarely came up for air. Jeff Bridges was the perfect arrogant asshole with self-loathed remorse. He hates that he has a heart, but he can't help it.
I also love New York City movies, especially throughout history, and this one reveals the trash, the gutter and the lost souls that inevitably come with a city this size. The Chinese restaurant scene is aesthetically pleasing and comically hillarious and Amanda Plummer plays the perfect lovable klutzy weirdo.
You just want them all to be happy and the movie both rips that away from you and gives it back to you repeatedly in two hours. Bravo.
