Review of The Fisher King (1991) by Rory P — 30 Jul 2013
You might baulk at Robin Williams looney toons depiction of mental illness, (and also homelessness,) especially when we are introduced to him at the beginning, but hes still quite effective in the role, That is the only major problem I have with this film really.
It feels like a film from another time, of the type that will never be made again. Its just so romantic and refreshingly classical in its style and structure, and in its depiction of humanity. It takes its time and wallows in colour and wonderful acting (part desperately real, part fantastic). and its all the better for it really, even if you feel it dragging a bit towards the end.
Michael Jeter's brief appearance deserved an oscar nomination and Mercedes Ruehl deservedly won an oscar. She is really great in this.
Jeff Bridges.

Sit down and enjoy it.
