Review of The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh (1979) by Wil H — 05 Oct 2007
Doctor j. meadowlark lemon. stockard channing. flip wilson. the entire 1978/79 los angeles lakers roster, INCLUDING commentary-man chick hearn. and -- AND -- jonathan winters, in a dual role as team-owning brothers, one of whom is perhaps mildly mentally challenged, to say the least.
In a film about winning an NBA championship by harnessing the fictional pittsburgh teams... wait for it... "Pisces Power".
If you asked me to come up with my all-time most ridiculous, wacko, dream-scenario cast and plotline, I could never even begin to touch this crazyfest with a ten-foot pole.
You know, I have championed this film for quite a few years now, and I find that very, very, very few people have even heard of it. which is sad, because something this outrageously absurd doesn't come along too often.
I don't believe this is out on DVD -- i'm just positive they're lovingly, painstakingly restoring every frame of this one first -- but try to see it if you can. otherwise, you'll never understand that most important of lessons that julius erving taught ME as a lad: namely, if your lady doesn't understand you, you know, just treat her to a slow-motion montage of late-night reverse basketball slamdunks. I find this works for me every time.
