Although not as effective as some of the previous installments, The First Purge still manages to be better than the original by providing more believable characters and conflicts to offset the unbelievable notion that an insane law like this would actually be passed.
The melodrama can drag at times, but the film delivers enough thrills and shocks to be mostly entertaining.
