Review of The Firm (1993) by Josh F — 18 Dec 2009
A gritty and captivating thrill ride that keeps you glued to the edge of your seat throughout. A picture perfect cast that surpasses expectations, Tom Cruise is exceptional as Mitch McDeere with his irresistible charm and quirky one liners, "Hey Ray, wouldn't it be funny if I went to Harvard, you went to Jail and we both ended up surrounded by crooks", a young lawyer fresh out of college chasing the American dream with exciting prospects he accepts an excellent offer by a small law firm in Memphis, Mitch becomes completely absorbed into a world of greed, corruption and deception and must make the ultimate decision stay with the firm or cooperate with the FBI.
Director Sydney Pollack is a master of sustaining suspense and exploring the moral complexities of being human, and in this instance he doesn't disappoint. A spectacular film that hasn't aged a bit. Great acting by all involved, including an outstanding cameo performance by Gary Busey. A must see!
