A superb story full of twists, intrigue and drama and with fully developed characters, strong dialogue and an intelligent plot. The performances within the film are good, not great but with such a great cast an individual standing out becomes harder.
The true beauty of this work lies in the hand magnificent hands of one Sydney Pollack. What an underrated director, a man that has given us so much quality work. He has within his work a sublime feel, a way of giving us a glimpse into life, much like Ernst Lubitsch and his famed "Lubitsch touch".
Adding to this, and giving a feel to the film like no other is a tremendous score. Jazzy and fresh, matching the Memphis of the films location this score keeps us sailing along with Cruise throughout the film, pushing us along his ride.
Really good work that gets better as I watch it again.
