Review of The Finest Hours (2016) by Fred L — 08 Sep 2016
Incredible sea action, with fine performances by the cast - straight out of the 50's- particularly by Holliday Grainger, whose portrayal of a strong woman, unwilling to accept the role normally assigned to females at that time, gave the story a depth it might not otherwise have had.
The central theme for me was the incredible courage often demanded of United States Coast Guard crews in the face of extraordinary danger. Having seen first-hand the power of a storm like the one depicted in this movie, and the impact it had on a 3500-ton Destroyer, I cannot imagine what it must have been like for those men in that small boat.
