Review of The Final Destination (2009) by Archibald T — 22 Mar 2011
Nick has a premonition while watching a car race. The focus of the premonition is that everybody will die. So, he freaks as certain things from what he saw start coming true. His friends, a hot mom, a security guard, a redneck and a mechanic survive the horrendous tragedy. Or so they thought!
Dun-Dun-Doh!
Now if you've seen every movie in the Final Destination series than you know that each one is picked off by some ominous force: Death, perhaps? It doesn't matter just like the characters and dialogue.
What does matter, and is the only reason to watch these movies, is how the characters are going to die. Some of the deaths boarder on abrupt territory and others are symbolic. Like for example Hunt and Janet are a couple and their deaths occur separately on the same day where they're told by their two other friends Lori and Nick to stay away from water. Janet goes to get her car washed and Hunt is chilling outside at a local pool. The car wash sequence was actually very effective and the demise of Hunt was just the same. Probably the only deaths that highlight the film itself are Hunt's and Samantha's (the hot mom played by Krista Allen).
Watching this film in 2D while it was originally released in 3D got me thinking about Jaws 3. They both have that same after effect which adds to the cheesy quality that is 3D. It was mildly amusing even in 2D. I normally would send a film like this to my Worst list, but I kind of enjoyed the way it ended. Probably because I didn't like any of the characters. You'll see what I mean if you check it.
