Review of The Final Destination (2009) by Kris G — 04 Mar 2012
Sometimes your a huge fan of something - a game for example - and you want there to be sequels. But after a while the sequels are so much like the original that you begin to get bored; this epitomizes the Final Destination franchise.
When Final Destination came out it immediately hit my like button. The sequel was excellent and an improvement on it's already likable predecessor; the third was also pretty enjoyable. But now we're on number four, it's lost the wow factor it once had.
In the three other films we had a bunch of teenagers/young adults all out together, one of them had a premonition and then death attempted to pick off the wary people one by one. Sadly it's the same again and everything feels overdone and cliched. When Final Destination first came out there was a feel of suspense and excitement at not knowing what was about to happen next. Now however the same methods have been used so many times it has become easier to predict outcomes of deaths; nothing is changing in the way of originality except bloodier CGI to make more stylish death sequences.
Also, their are no big names in the cast and the less known actors/actresses don't really give much of an impression; average performances at best for the majority!
The past three Final Destination movies I would rate at:
Final Destination 3/5.
Final Destination 2 4/5.
Final Destination 3 3/5.
...but you just can't doing the same things and expect things to stay the same, new ideas are required. And if I'm being honest scrapping originality The Final Destination was still the least engaging and disappointing of the series by some distance!
