Review of The Final Destination (2009) by Alex L — 14 May 2011

This is quite simply one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. Don't get me wrong, I like the previous Final Destination movies. They're creepy, gory, and the acting isn't all bad. This one throws all of that out the window in one massive pile of complete horse shit.

The deaths are all completely stupid, and when did CGI ever look this bad in a 'big horror' movie? For a successful horror franchise, the effects are certainly looking awful; as is the acting. People watch others explode in all sorts of gory fashions, only to frown for a momment before seemingly moving on with their lives, continuing to look 'hot' before they meet there (often un-intentially hilarious) deaths.

I just really cannot see how this script was green-lighted. It is literally like a fan-script, of the worst possible kind. Every single character is a one-dimensional puppet, waiting in line for their finest momments (death). We get all sorts of stereotypes in here. A racist borderline Nazi, the Jock, a pretty boy nice guy, hell, we even get a fricken' character named 'Milf' in the credits (No I am not kidding).

The worst scene in the movie by far is when one of the characters trys to commit suicide. Two other people find him hanging, and rescue him just in time (unfortunately). Supposedly this man is 'on the edge' after he finds out death is out to get him. In reality, this man would be obviously shaken, disturbed, and damn near paranoid of every little thing happening around him. Not in The Final Destination though. Five minutes later we see him standing around with his two friends, drinking wine and celebrating something totally inexplicable (with the noose still around his neck I might add).

The only reason I am giving this movie even 1 star, is because it offers very cheap (un-intentional) laughs. Me and my friend sat laughing throughout because of it's sheer awfulness. Oh, and just to add insult to injury, the 5th installment is coming out later this year. Wanna see a good 4th installment to a horror franchise, go see Scream 4. This film just sucks.
