Review of The Filth and the Fury (2000) by John G — 20 Dec 2008
It's as much a brilliant commentary on Britain in the 1970s as it is a fantastic rockumentary. This is a film about being young, feeling alienated and taking on the establishment (both musical and political) to get somebody to do something about it.
The fact that Rotten is now a 50-odd year old has been who flogs Country Life butter in commercials sums up the whole 'it's only the fakes who survive' mentality. In this life you either sell out, or you die.
It's wrong, but that's the reality and this movie shows that.
