Review of The Fighter (2010) by Gerald D — 06 Dec 2012
Really Good. Maybe not great. I think I went in with too high of expectations. It is a great story and great acting. I love that it is based on a true story. It is impressive what Micky had to overcome to get where he got. And by "had to overcome" I mean his family. I wasn't a big fan of his family and found they really brought down the mood of the film by just being on screen. Everyone did a nice job being a drag to Micky particularily Christian Bale as his brother. But I couldn't stand all the screen time Christian got when he was so annoying to watch. That is just a preference thing for me. Maybe some people enjoyed watching his portrayal of a crack addict. He did it well. He'll probably get the oscar.
Problem for me was I didn't get emotionally into the story as much as I thought I would. But in the end I really liked it, not quite as much as Rocky, but couldn't quite love it.
