The Fighter's performances are its greatest attribute - a jumpy and charismatic pinnacle performance by Christian Bale, alongside impressive outings by Melissa Leo and Amy Adams; Mark Wahlberg's steadfast central performance shouldn't be overlooked though, it's reliability anchors the film.
However, the film itself is a magnificent achievement too: a very humane and believable film, with flawed, real characters (a speciality of director David O. Russell's) with an ultimately uplifting ending.
