Review of The Fifth Estate (2013) by Gianluca B — 26 Oct 2013
Just saw The Fifth Estate, it was really really good. Benedict Cumberbatch will definitely get a nomination if nothing else. I do believe the main reasons people are giving it bad reviews/ratings are that it's a touchy subject, and an intellectual one.
It does require thinking and evaluating your own moral compass on such things, which most people don't want to do while watching a movie. It's not one to passively watch, it requires thinking and discussion Joanna and I were the only ones in the theater so we were able to question, talk and react while watching it, without offending anyone else.
So if you want to see a movie that is on a controversial subject that will make you think and has a stellar performance by Cumberbatch (which may also be why people have issues because Assange is an egotistical bastard, who requires constant attention, so it may upset those who wanted to watch it because he's attractive and they enjoy Sherlock) then I recommend seeing it!
