Review of The Fifth Estate (2013) by Alex R — 12 Jan 2014

Considering that the story of Wikileaks is very interesting, The Fifth Estate is an awful mess of a picture, one that wastes its great cast of actors on a shallow script, and a poor story. The best way to summarize this film is that it's a film that is poorly executed and can't seem to pull off something interesting with a standout cast.

I think it's a shame because The Fifth Estate had the potential of being a great film. However, it's far from it. In fact the film is boring, bland, not exciting, and the cast themselves give subpar performances due to poorly fleshed out characters.

The real life people that these actors portray are very interesting due to the amount of controversy they have amassed through the website wikileaks. Julian Assange story is one that should have been told in a more thrilling fashion, and this film fails in doing so.

The Fifth Estate tries to be a thriller, one that tries to be intelligent, but ultimately it just falls flat. This is a film that just fails in terms of being an effective thriller, and it just ends up wasting a great cast of talented actors.

I really was disappointed by this film, and overall it's one of the worst films of 2013. Considering that the real facts are thrilling, they could really have pulled off a great film with The Fifth Estate.

Alas, it was not to be, this is just a lacking film in every sense of the word. The script lacks anything that will capture the viewers attention. I really can't recommend this film, and if you're looking an effective thriller, you won't find it.

The Fifth Estate is just a train wreck that fails to really entertain and it is highly forgettable.
