Review of The Fifth Estate (2013) by Nikki R — 20 Oct 2013
Was it set out to be an homage to Hackers? This movie is literally soul-crushing. Throughout the film the bromance between those two men got so heady I thought they would make love right in front of those projecting words, all whilst SPEAKING those words.
Apparently, because the general audience of this piece of trash can't read and don't know a thing about the internet and what an Operating System is. The two men were constantly sharing lover's glances, I thought there would be a kiss after every spat.
The 'Hacking' in this film was truly laughable. They felt smart when they used big words like 'Protected' and 'OS' which they used often. They never once used words like 'Firewall.
' These guys are supposed to be genius level hackers and programmers and it is immediately apparent that they are actors. They did not know what they were doing and did not know what that computer jargon meant.
The genius plan to hide his identity was to have hundreds of emails. All to different names. The "program" that Assange wrote was just 1991 Linux. Anyone with a basic knowledge in computer programming will see through this film in an instant.
