Review of The Fifth Estate (2013) by Daxton M — 28 Oct 2013
The Fifth Estate stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Dan Stevens, and Daniel Bruhl, this film follows Julian Assange the founder of Wikileaks and for those of you dont know wikileaks is the site that leaked thousands of classified US military documents a few years back.
This film has opened to mixed reviews from critics and I can understand why because The Fifth Estate is one of those films that is designed for a very specific type of audience. That being said I loved this film.
This a very performance driven and intellectual film. Benedict Cumberbatch gives a oscar worthy performance in his portrayal of a very complicated man. Cumberbatch is easily one of the top actors in hollywood today.
I mean the guy brings his A game in every role Ive ever seen him do. The cinematography is just beautiful in this film, most of the film is shot in Europe and many exotic locations which is a cinematographers dream and this film takes full advantage.
The ending is very satisfying along with leaving you wanting to know more about this man and the current status of his organization. In the end I loved The Fifth Estate and is most definitely one of my favorite films of 2013 and a very underrated film by most critics.
I recommend you see this film and just get lost in this character driven thriller.
