Review of The Fifth Element (1997) by Jazen H — 31 Aug 2014
One of my favorite films, it's very fast paced and a very gripping story. I was expecting this to become a franchise but I am glad no one came by to ruin this movie by making horrible sequels or remakes.
The effects are great and they stand the test of time! I highly recommend. [revised] This movie is bright, vibrant, and just simply amazing. Brion James is someone I always liked ever since a young boy after seeing Tango and Cash and I was sad to hear of his passing after seeing this film.
This movie also taught me who Ian Holm and Gary Oldman were, as I didn't know them by name before this. I can't believe Luke Perry is mentioned in the opening credits and after he trips on a bag is forever forgotten.
I do like all the performances of the actors and casting choices. I think whoever did costumes for this film should have been paid more. Costumes are over the top and crazy, but look great in this world.
The score of the film is great and I love the soundtrack as well. Music is a driving factor in many scenes and it's done masterfully. Great story, great screenplay, great director, and that's just one guy? This story tells us that even though people are self-murdering, mass destructors, there will always be a savior of some kind to save us from evil so we can kill another day.
