I love this sci-fi film! I think it was the futuristic element with parts of funniness in it (intended or not I don't know) that I just loved about it. I think it essentially has to do with action and that hint of bizarre love in it that got me.
Haha no, actually, it was also Mila Jovovich's alien character that was hilarious to watch!
