Review of The Fifth Element (1997) by Rebecca R — 03 Sep 2013
In 'The Fifth Element', writer/director Luc Besson's childhood sci-fi story comes across as too simplistic and cartoony for mature audiences, but perhaps fittingly enough, entertaining for younger audiences.
Milla Jovovich's child-like Leeloo has been derided by some critics, but I think it's a pretty fearless and colorful performance by a young actress. Most all of the performances here are memorable, actually -- maybe none more than Chris Tucker's love-it-or-hate-it flamboyant radio show host, Ruby Rhod.
A bizarre and uneven film, but too creative to completely dismiss.
