Review of The Fifth Element (1997) by Larry H — 30 Jul 2017
There is seemingly no limit when it comes to Besson's The Fifth Element. A sci-fi film so imaginative, so zany, so free-spirited... there is so much to love here. From the sets, to the colors, the characters, the costumes, and the comedy it all comes together as a feast for the eyes and the heart.
The film teeters so close to so-bad-it's-good territory without actually being bad, sticking itself on that fine line between campy trash and genius. It is self-aware camp that knows what it is and completelty owns it 100%!
