Review of The Favourite (2018) by Peggy B — 29 Dec 2018
That the critic reviews gushed about this film but audience reviews were more tepid should have been my flashing sign Warning! Warning! Warning! Ok, I'll give you this: the costumes and sets were eye popping and the acting, especially Olivia Coleman as Queen Anne terrific.
BUT, clearly, no one with creative authority helped with the plot. The Editors didn't edit. The Director ran out of ideas before developing the denouement and the Producer must have run out of money, hence the ending that left me walking out murmuring, "I've been duped.
" An 18th century version of the fade-to-black Bunny Hop only fueled audience groaning.
