This was not an easy Hollywood story which will have unsettled many a mid week viewer expecting a witty costume drama with a happy ending. It is about pain and loneliness in a queen looking for comfort and friendship.
One woman a born leader and another looking to avoid her fate and return to a position of comfort. A battle ensues as men are maybe brave and unseen or stupid and in positions of power, which seems to have corrupted any wit they may have had.
Not a flattering or happy picture, but with such emotion and atmosphere not to mention award winning costumes and performances. An end with great tension and perhaps a spiral into an endless joyless hell.
