Review of The Favourite (2018) by Robbie L — 06 Jan 2019
Yorgos Lanthimos likes to fill his films up with interesting characters with delectable dialogue that all you can do is watch the film and lick your lips hungry for more. The Favourite does everything in its power to step out of the shadow of "The Lobster" and show what else can be expected from Mr Lanthimos.
Having stayed away from most of the promotional materials, as I wanted to go into the cinema as blind as possible, I was surprised to see that the director had opted to drop the blunt and to the point form of dialogue and had instead gone for an all-out explicit and loud film.
Every joke lands, every form of intensity is felt at the end of the fingers and every shot is filled beautiful to excellence almost to feel like a two-hour long painting. 4/5.
