Review of The Favourite (2018) by Kevin T — 28 Dec 2018
A fanciful look at a sad woman in history. Queen Anne did not have an easy life, and one of her close friends in her early years, Lady Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough, turned on her when she was replaced as the best friend of the Queen, with good reason as Sarah was a mean, controlling woman.
Sarah later wrote in her memoirs that Anne was having a lesbian affair with Abigail, the new favorite. Sounds like sour grapes to me. This is a crude, fanciful film with little to recommend it apart from some pretty gowns and beautiful castles.
