Review of The Favourite (2018) by Kate F — 28 Dec 2018
Meh. Not the most attention grabbing.
Olivia Colman (Queen) delivered an outstanding performance. Tearful eyes and even a sudden illness had the Queen the star of the movie. Emma Stone (Abigail) showed her same predictable acting skills that she carries in all her films. She's complex, but bland. Rachel Weisz (Sarah) gave us piercing looks and such sass.
The Favourite's costumes and set design were outstanding, and the cinematography style made you feel drunk with the fish eye view in scenes.
Now honest movie review:
Although it had funny parts, it is a dark film. Set in the 18th century England, the men wore makeup and the women looked tired. Emma Stone was ruthless at trying to win over the Queen's attention. It held a lot of unconformable sexual scenes and physical trauma. For a 2hr film it just seemed to just drag on. I would recommend this as a Netflix or Redbox movie.
