Review of The Fault in Our Stars (2014) by Manami K — 24 Feb 2015
There is a sadness that gets more so as the movie progresses, doesn't get too heavy handed but where it tries to be funny or witty or both it fails, didn't laugh once at any of the attempts. The two main characters are rather likable but the guy who plays Gus is not a good actor and can be a bit distracting at certain points he is that bad.
However Shailene and Laura Dern are very good. A great actor pops up and plays the typical author character and that is also a let down. There is a slight plot twist that does help to improve the story and changes where you thought the movie might go into the ending.
The end is sad but not paticularly moving and I guess for me it was that the male lead just wasn't very good so it took away from the mood. Overall it is one of my favorite words.....mediocre.
