Review of The Fault in Our Stars (2014) by Sean P — 27 Feb 2015
The Fault In Our Stars - A tricky subject matter, Finding love at a Cancer support group ? Death hovering in the background. However I am pleased to say, it does find it's feet. It does it right.
It's warm and tender. There will of course be tears, something you have in the back of your mind. Like the two lead characters ask themselves is it worth investing your emotions (in them )? A Hand Grande that will take you apart when it goes off ?
Well both are very easy to like. You can and do feel for them and start to invest and care about them. Holding onto the Hand Grande. A ticking time bomb of emotion. Like a roller-coaster or a train ride, you are along for the ride, and you know where you are going to end up. Inevitably there will be tears - but the journey is something that you will be glad you set off on.
The humor help's keep the mood up and the story flowing. Its always fitting and never uncomfortable. We have , a Jesus loving Support Group Leader with guitar strumming and singing. The sharing of fears. To the very real text message conversations between Hazel Grace and Gus. Grounded and real.
An ending not quite where you expect, which perhaps makes it bite even deeper. Still there is a positive tone, to the sense of loss. The Journey was worth it. A sad but uplifting tale , that proves life isn't just black and white. Life can sometimes present you with more than you bargained for. Never give up.
