Review of The Fault in Our Stars (2014) by Mago B — 06 Jun 2015
Wow, that was a lot more impressive than the cheesy romcom I was bracing for! Shailene Woodley underwhelmed and grated in Divergent, but I have a newfound respect after this- some great performances, inc the church readings, post-departure bed heartache and concluding scenes.
Also impressed that they often managed to steer clear of some obvious cliches (tho first half is a little syrupy) - eg, the lead finding out the true meaning of her favourite novel would have been a predictable bookend to the film, but they wisely choose a more interesting angle.
