Review of The Fault in Our Stars (2014) by Barbara C — 01 Nov 2014
Cried like a baby numerous times which is a testament to how good the movie was. They never wandered into hopeless territory which I greatly appreciated. Hazel and Gus made perfect sense to me and I know "the trip" was vital to the story but I didn't like how it fit in here.
The reference/comparison to another great literary accomplishment about suffering and courage was perfectly done. If you need a reason to see it, watch for that. The story wouldn't have better showing endless hours in the hospital but they tried for a reality here they didn't quite capture without more of that.
It wasn't a fabulous film but it was very good. Both young actors delivered throughout. Caveat - wait until you're in the mood as there was plenty of heartache depicted.
