Review of The Fault in Our Stars (2014) by Tyler C — 17 Mar 2015
To me, The fault in our stars perfectly demonstrates someone's ability to make a grown man transform into a 13 year old girl. Not only does the adaptation of John Greene's New York Times best seller narrate the pain and hardships of one of life's greatest illnesses but depicts how you love can be found in almost any possible place.
It's like that old see saw in your everyday park that is like really fun when it goes up but when it comes down and hits the floor it really fucking hurts your coccyx and brings a tear to your eye, yeah it's like that but in motion picture form.
Even though the romantic scenes can be very cliché it manages to fix this by bringing in the dopest character of the film, Peter Van Houten, portrayed by Willem Defoe or as I like to call him - big dick bandito.
The guy is pretty badass. The film may not be artistically stunning but it doesn't need to be because that shit made me cry my fucking eyes out so well played. Also Isaac, played by Nat Wolf was almost non existent in the second act and honestly could have been showed a little bit more.
He disappears at the start of the film as his girlfriend leaves him because he has to take out his only working eye due to his cancer and leave him blind. So of course the best way to show that without telling the audience is to obviously make him disappear for half the fucking film and then have him show up at the end with sunglasses on and a walking stick which he throws about everywhere and not moving his head.
Come on now don't play that game with me. So basically kids have cancer, film is like a see saw, made me cry, Willem Defoe is the greatest actor of our generation and not enough Nat Wolff. 9/15 Tyler stars.
