Review of The Father (2020) by Cadencotard — 28 Feb 2021
The best film about growing old since “Amour”, Florian Zeller’s outstanding directorial debut “The Father” expertly puts you in the shoes of Anthony as his mind and reality trick him and slowly crumble.
Olivia Colman is phenomenal as Anthony’s daughter. But the true highlight is Anthony Hopkins, who gives one of the best performances of the century. Chadwick Boseman did an excellent job in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, but if we’re being honest, Anthony deserves the Oscar.
This is easily one of the best movies of the year and one that will resonate deeply with anyone who has seen a loved one struggle during the last phase of their lives.
