Review of The Fate of the Furious (2017) by Brandon W — 19 Jul 2017
The Fate of the Furious is directed by F. Gary Gray, and it stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Kurt Russell, and Charlize Theron in an action comedy about Toretto's crew going on a typical mission that they were following orders for, and all of a sudden, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) goes rogue and attacked his own crew, and the crew goes after him to see why he went rogue.
When I saw the trailers for it like everybody else, we were wondering about what made Vin Diesel's character betray his family as he kept talking about family like he usually do. Now I've been a fan of this series for a long time, with Furious 7 being my favorite out of all of them, even though Fast Five does come close to it.
So I got to finished it, and while the movie isn't as good as both of those films, I still enjoyed it for what it is. The acting is great as usual, and Charlize Theron is good as the villain in a way that she can be interpreted as a Bond villain.
The action scenes are over the top, but they are awesome to watch, and seeing hundreds of zombies cars going after someone is quite a delight. The humor is really good, even though at times it can be a bit forced, and I do wish there were a bit more character development on the villain.
The interplay between Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham is hilarious and is probably the best part. When Helen Mirren shows up, it comes up as so delightful when she's talking to her son, and I wanted to see a movie based on that family.
The one aspect that I didn't like, was Scott Eastwood's character as he's just there to give restrictions to the crew and be aggravating to them. So with that, The Fate of the Furious is a great film that doesn't feel like it's running out of steam.
