Review of The Fate of the Furious (2017) by Captain_Chaos — 19 May 2017
If you've been following the Furious series from the beginning, its transformation from being about street racing to being about international counter-terrorism would seem completely ridiculous- and it is, but it revels in its over-the-top bombast and is all the more enjoyable for it, as it slowly accrues bigger name actors and bigger stunts. Good car movies almost never get made anymore, but Furious fits the bill. Its breakneck pace makes you forget the sheer length of the film and, as always, you come and stay to these movies for the awesome vehicular stunts.
However, Fate is by far the darkest and most emotionally weighty film in the series, if you can believe it, and it commits the old sin of stuffing a female character in the fridge to provide motivation to a male lead, and honestly suffers for it.
