Review of The Fate of the Furious (2017) by John A — 25 Apr 2017
Wasn't perfect, but it was still a really good time. It was hard to look at it seriously. This movie series has come an long way, and hopefully this is the beginning of a new story. In The Fate of the Furious, Dominic Toretto turns on his family to work for a hacker named Cipher, played by Charlize Theron. The team now has help from Jason Statham (the antagonist in Furious 7), and Scott Eastwood, just as some help to find Dom whose job is to retrieve nuclear launch codes to Cipher. Let me start off by saying, this movie is insane, and it knows that it is. Just when you think they cant get any bigger, they got bigger. Don't get me wrong though, This film improved as far as what makes a decent action movie. It had a well-developed villain, Cipher. Who is the fiercest villain of the franchise by-far. Along with shinny cars, of course. Fast five is the best in this series, because it had a reasonable ratio of the story, plot and writing to adrenaline-pumping action, and it worked. This movie on the other hand is pure action. If it had a better story revolving around Dom turning his back on his family with submarines, rocket-powered cars and ridiculous car chases, it would be better, but hey, they can't all be winners. Justin Lin directed 5 & 6. James Wan directed 7 and F. Gary Gary directed this one. It's hard to tell which director did the best, but one thing I noticed is that F. Gary Gary used some of the techniques James Wan used in 7, such as the camera rotating when someone falls backwards, or 3 seconds of slow-motion during a moment of action, all that stuff. I honestly think that he improved from James Wans direction.
Over all, this movie is 2 hr 40min of entertainment. I give this movie.
4 1/2 stars because I think that it was really good, but could've had a better story.
