Review of The Fate of the Furious (2017) by Natasha B — 25 Apr 2017

Highly enjoyable and entertaining. There is no need to see the previous 7 films to follow this, which doesn't speak volumes to the plot or franchise. The action is spectacular. Charlize Theron has the best performance as a temperamental, formidable villain. Theron and Diesel, shockingly, carry the performance. Dwayne Johnson brings (com)passion to the screen, while acting isn't employed much for the the rest of the cast. Diesel has nailed the intense facial expression of hurt and street-rat integrity, and that's what all of his scenes call for. It works perfectly in the film actually. Jason Statham provides great action with his crazed goofyness, a la Crank. Tyrese fills the role of buffoonish comic relief.

The film is a bit too long, over 2.5 hours. Towards the end we get a little lost on the plot but there's enough action to keep you watching. Again, entertaining, but not a performance for the ages (duh).
