Review of The Fate of the Furious (2017) by Anuj & A — 25 Apr 2017
Gritty, Cheesy, and a whole lot of fun! The Fate of the Furious knows exactly what type of film it is - so grab your popcorn and enjoy the new ride! Physics be damned!
Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, The Rock, Michelle Rodriguez, and the rest of the remaining Family return for this "edge of your seat" action movie packed with laughs and heart. The veteran hand of F. Gary Grey ("Friday", "Straight Outta Compton", "The Negotiator") brings a unique style to the film without sacrificing the heart of what makes this franchise so successful to begin with. All the trope of the "Fast Saga" get out in the first ten minutes with our characters in Cuba - then Gary Grey really gets his movie started with an excellent script by Chris Morgan who crafts an excellent villain in Cipher (Charlize Theron), who really steals the show. Outside of the spoiler in the movie :).
Statham, Diesel and The Rock all give stellar performances making their characters feel alive and familiar and the camera work only accents the action stars abilities to keep you cheering for our heroes.
Yea the heroes are never in any real danger, and as I said earlier "Physics be damned!" - it's fun. And as much as I though Fast 7 was "the last ride" now I can't wait to see more!
